Low Maintenance Trees for Your Yard
Most people who own homes take a lot of pride in their landscape and how it looks. A big part of those looks is the trees that people have around their yards. There is only one problem with trees; sometimes it can take a lot of effort to keep them looking great. Things get even worse when deciduous trees start to shed their leaves in the fall. It’s enough to drive any homeowner crazy. The thing is, trees don’t have to be so hard to take care of. If you don’t have much time to care for your trees and clean your landscaped area, here are some low-maintenance trees for your yard.
Persian Parrotia (Parrotia persica)
Here is a tree that just about the only thing you will have to worry about maintenance wise is a few leaves falling off in the fall. And even that takes place over a short period of time. This is a tree that grows 20’ to 40’ tall and grows very well in planting zones 5 through 8. The leaves are dark green in the summer and turn to a decorative yellow, orange or scarlet color in the fall. They virtually never require pruning and they are amazingly disease resistant.
Princess Tree (Paulownia tomentosa)
If you live in planting zones 5 through 9 and you are looking for a low maintenance type of tree, then you will want to take a closer look at this one. This native of China looks very good most of the year and it has a very short leaf dropping period in the fall. It develops colorful flower buds toward the end of the fall and keeps them on until the spring when it blooms. Insects and diseases don’t seem to bother it much at all. The only pruning they require is some periodic shaping. Plant them away from high wind areas so they grow to their some 30’ to 50’ average height.
River Birch (Betula nigra)
If you are looking for a large share tree that is easy to take care of, then this tree may be just right for you. They are hardy trees that grow well in planting zones 4 through 9. These trees will reach a maximum height of 60”. The predominantly egg-shaped leaves on them usually turn a picturesque reddish-purple. Unlike most trees in the birch family, insects and diseases rarely bother them.
